1778554 - Firefox hangs when returning to it after using a different app

Steps to reproduce:

Using Macbook Pro (16-inch, 2021) and MacOS 12.4.
Open Firefox, have about 10 tabs open. Use other open apps on the computer. Return to firefox.

Actual results:

Firefox hangs. Will not acknowledge typed keys. Will not reload pages. Will not open different tabs. Firefox must be quit and restarted to get it to function again.

Expected results:

Firefox should function when it has been left open on the computer, even when other apps have been used and one returns to use Firefox.

Can you give us some more information?

• Do you reproduce the bug each time you're doing these operations, or does that happen only sometimes?
• Troubleshooting information: Go to about:support, click "Copy raw data to clipboard", paste it into a file, save it, and attach the file here.
• Can you have a look at your activity monitor, see if Firefox takes CPU?

• this bug is reproduced sporadically but generally at least daily.
• Is there a specific portion of data that you're interested in/ For privacy, I'd prefer not to share the whole thing.
• screenshot of activity monitor is attached; this doesn't seem to be the issue

I strongly suspect this is a duplicate of bug 1772473. Let me know if it sounds like the issue you're seeing is different.

I haven't left it for 5-30 minutes (re bug 1772473) to see if the hang resolves itself. I'll do that and report back. Thanks!

yes, if I leave the browser for a while, the hang will resolve itself.
