Mozilla is no longer able to open this URL. It starts, but gets hung up part way
through. Some of the time it draws part of the screen, then clears the screen to
a white background. The loading symbol on the tab continues to spin. Mozilla is
not hung in a busy loop, it shows no CPU use (Wintop). It appears to be waiting
for something.

Have you tried to clear the disk cache (edit\pref..\advanced\cache) ?

I never saw this (only if you use NS6 with the same profile) but i bet it can
happen that the cache file corrupts ...
