User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
Steps to reproduce:
Nothing: it stopped working by itself. I suspect the problem is related to the Mozilla ad which appears in the message window, instead of the selected message (see screenshot attached).
Actual results:
My unified inbox shows 0 messages, although there are many in the underlying accounts
Expected results:
By selecting the unified inbox, I should see a list of all the messages from all the accounts, sorted according to the selected criterion. The bar should show the total number of such messages (and not 0).

I fixed it by following the method below, from comment 12 of Bug 1777606 :
"Please try the following info to see if it resets situation.
This is the advise offered when people ask in Support Forum. about problems with the Unified folders.
It does not mean the bug is fixed, but see if it works for you and report back on results.
First set 'View' > 'Folders' > 'All' - uncheck the 'Unified' option.
Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting information
Under 'Application Basics' half way - Profile Folders - click on 'Open Folder'
A new window opens showing contents of profile folder.
Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
Locate the 'virtualFolders.dat' file and delete it.
Click on 'Mail' folder to see contents.
Delete the 'smart mailboxes' folder
Start Thunderbird
Allow any mail to download
Set 'View' > 'Folders' > 'Unified'"
