Currently in Phoenix, Ctrl+B toggles the Bookmarks sidebar. However, Ctrl+B
opens the Bookmark Manager in Netscape 3.x, Netscape 4.x, Mozilla, and Netscape
6.x-7.x.
-> WONTFIX.

I remember that Asa explained in the MozillaZine forums that this is
intentional, since the bookmark sidebar is more likely to be used by the end-user.

Then, perhaps, Ctrl+Shift+B for the Bookmark Manager?
Ok, reopening.
Severity: trivial → enhancement

Marking as NEW since I think this is a valid enhancement request.

A related request, bug 180026, requests adding a bookmark manager button to the
toolbar inventory. One or both of these should probably be implemented.

Do you want this? or bug 212178
*** Bug 212178 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
In Bug 212178 I chose Ctrl+M rather than Ctrl+Shift+B to open the Bookmark
Manager (let's go easy on the modifier combos). Other than that, this is
probably what you want.
*** Bug 214900 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
do you want to rename this bug or make a new patch?
Maybe there could be an option to have Ctrl+B open the Bookmarks Manager
instead of the Bookmarks sidebar?
I think such an option would be more work than it's worth, let's just add a
hotkey for the Bookmarks Manager and be done with it.

Ctrl+M is easier/faster to press than Shift+Ctrl+B, IMHO.
Since Blake just added the additional Hotkey CTRL-I for the bookmarks sidebar
(because of IE compatibility), we could change CTRL-B to open bookmarks manager
instead.

This would confuse existing users, but since we're still miles away from 1.0 I
think this would be ok. Blake, Pierre, any comments on this?

...not those fleeing from Mozilla; it's what we expect when we press CTRL+B...

*shrug*
IE for Windows also opens something resembing a bookmark manager when you hit
Ctrl+B.

Add Ctrl+M hotkey for Bookmark Manager

reassign ctrl+b to bookmarks manager and advertise ctrl+I for bookmarks sidebar
would be better because it's more IEish and more familiar to the more populous
population of IErs and Seamonkeyers

What's happening with this bug?
Bookmarks manager window could really do with a shortcut key.

(FWIW: M won't do on OS X, it's used for minimize window)

There is no shortcut listed for "manage bookmarks".

This is definitely broken -- most users don't want to see a sidepain^H^Hne as
claimed -- they want to be able to manipulate and use their bookmarks.

Unfortunately, it seems the history-in-a-window behaviour has been nixed. Why?
Why break age-old netscape behaviour? That was far more usable than the
**** solution we have now?
A bug from 2002, which handles a tiny element. How it's possible that It hasn't solved it already.

I think it's clear. There a two resolutions for this issue

CTRL-I wil be maintained (for IE-users) and CRTL-B will be the bookmark manager (because we don't need two shortcuts for the same action)

or

We break with IE and:
CTRL-I will be disabled
CTRL-B leave it as it is
SHFT-CTRL-B open the bookmark manager

can someone please decide what to do (after four years).

Thanks

Patrick
Accel+B = Bookmarks Sidebar
Accel+Shift+B = Organize Bookmarks

This is not going to change further.
