Steps to reproduce:

I selected a pdf file to be opened in Firefox. The following happens both when doing this over the download dialog as well as having "open file in Firefox" selected in the settings.

Actual results:

The file was downloaded to the /home/Downloads folder and opened in Firefox.

Expected results:

The file should not appear in the /home/Downlaods but rather be downloaded to a temporary directory not cluttering my Downloads folder.

Could you please check browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir pref with its usecases detailed in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1738574#c133 ? I'd be assuming this is what you want.
