Here are two separate messages.... posted as NEW messages using the 'Compose'
function, yet the subject remains the same. Mozilla seems to think this is a
thread. This obviously plays havoc to things such as FAQ's for newsgroups which
can be regularly posted...

I do have a couple of JPEG's I can attach to demonstrate the problem if possible

Second MEssage

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Post a NEW message in a test group.
2. Download headers.
3. Post another NEW message with the same title as the message previously posted
by yourself.
4. Download headers again.
5. View the thread.

Actual Results:
The separate messages join together to form a thread because they have the same
title (seemingly)

Expected Results:
They should stay as separate messages.

The attached URL refers to a couple of JPG's I took as screen shots. Plus I
tried to explain a little bit more if this bug report isn't clear...
The image “http://www.blargle.co.uk/moznews/example2.jpg” cannot be displayed,
because it contains errors.
Whoops. Thanks for the heads up. File is now fixed. Cheers. Is my bug report
fairly understandable? I feel I may have gone overboard and it may come across
as being insulting... sorry if that's the case.
Hi Simon, yes, that is perfectly clear. Obviously, we're threading by subject
and not by references. See bug 164115 for a bit of background/commentary on
this issue. I'm confirming your bug, but this might end of being a DUP of that
bug or another more specific bug.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
I have a patch to turn off threading by subject in news. We do thread by
reference, but we also thread by subject, if the references don't match.
I'm not convinced mozilla really threads by reference. Please see bug 93426. It
seems to me the only thing the references are used for is to count and put the
right number of |_ widgets in.

I think that the thread-by-subject pref should be set per folder, and default to off for news. Thoughts bienvenu?
QA Contact: networking.news
default to off by news is fine; setting it per folder is a stretch, especially since you'd need to add a ui to set it, and the vast majority of users don't care.
