1783971 - Firefox uses browser.downloads.lastDir as default download save location even when browser.downloads.dir has been changed

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:103.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/103.0

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox save his downloads, since Version 100.x, with Windows 11,, not more in the location, that I define in his "Settings".

Actual results:

I must edit it in his "user-folder..." in the "prefs.js"-file, where the : user_pref("browser.download.dir" is always right - but the : user_pref("browser.download.lastDir" NOT ... and that is the place, where the downloads actually be placed !

Expected results:

Please fix it - it's weird . . . :(

Could you please tell us how are your settings in about:preferences / Downloads? which folder is selected? did you check the Always Ask Where to Save checkbox?

Could you please go to about:support, paste the log from there into a txt file and attach it to this bug report using the Attach New File button above?

Can you please also answer these questions? Do the Firefox settings show the folder where files are saved, or a different one? And is "Always ask where to save" checked or not?

Hello Gijs,

I reportet the answer and have make the "FF about.support.txt" (see above), but my post therefore is not more to see...

The "Always ask where to save" check I never use - I use ever a download folder on my drives.

After the installation from a new SSD, as 2. drive, I had changed the path to "L:\Downloads" - but FF saved his downloads to the old path: "D:\Downloads" ...

Then I had searched the text-file, where are the definitions - changed the "prefs.js"-file at line: user_pref("browser.download.lastDir", with the old path, to the new path ... and then goes right !

Hi, We tried to reproduce this issue on our end on both Firefox Release 103 as well as our latest Release version 106 and regardless where we change our Downloads directory the file is always saved to the new location. @Klaus are you still seeing this issue in our latest Release version 106? can you try uninstalling the previous version and installing directly the 106 version? You can find it here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ , Please let us know if files are still saved in the older folder and not the new one after changing its location.

Yeah - with the new version 106 now it's OK !

FF saved his download in the new folder ... :-))

Closing this bug as Works For Me, but we can reopen if it starts to reoccur in the future versions.
