I have seen this bug with both mozilla and phoenix. It seems to be in all versions I tried... When I use either on a 8bpp xterminal after a while the crash. It looks like they run out of colors or palette room. I can live with colors being wrong in those cases (e.g. a color that resembles what should have been used) but the browser just dissapearing is really annoying.
Do you have a talkback ID? Does this only happen in 8bpp? If you start mozilla from console: do you see any error messages before the crash? Could the crash be related to use of flash on the pages you crash? (Which version of flash are you using?) Similar: bug 178533
Propably dup of bug 178152 (crash on 8bpp when selecting an image)

do you crash because you select images within Mozilla/Phoenix ? If so, that will be fixed with bug 124556.
