Sounds like something went wrong with the update.
You could try downloading 102.3.1 from thunderbird.net directly and install in same directory as previous version. Your data will remain intact.

Avast is known to cause such problems. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1384853#answer-1525849
Ton, can you please provide an update log with these steps:
- Do Settings > General > type "config" into the search
- open Config Editor
- Search for "app.update.log" and set it to "true".
- Restart Thunderbird.
- Do Help > About
- Open Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console
- Type AUS into the filter
- Please copy/paste everything starting with "AUS:"

Or maybe bug 1586699 would be a better bug to dupe these to?
