If you do encounter this again before the behavior changes, you can press escape to close the modal. Potentially we'll switch it to be a tab modal instead of a window modal.

Bug 1789008 switched the upgrade spotlight to a tab modal, so the existing tab's close button gets rid of it (while also allowing the user to switch away and back if desired).

I have verified that this issue is no longer reproducible with the latest Firefox Nightly (106.0a1 Build ID - 20220909093917) installed on Windows 10 x64, macOS 11.6.5, and Linux Mint 20.2 x64. Now, I can confirm that the Onboarding spotlight was switched to a tab-modal and can be dismissed by pressing the "Esc" key or by closing the tab containing the modal.
