Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:104.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/104.0

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to setup an account for the NNTP server nntp.lore.kernel.org.
The following steps where tested both under Debian Linux and under Windows 11.

  1. Start Thunderbird with an empty account, to make a clean test.
  2. Add Newsgroup Account
  3. WizardStep1: fill in name and email
  4. WizardStep2: Newsgroup server: nntp.lore.kernel.org
  5. WizardStep3: Account Name: nntp.lore.kernel.org

Now try to subscribe to something:
5) Right click on the folder and click "Subscribe..."
6) Click "Refresh"

Thunderbird stays forever on a "Please wait..." message and the newsgroups list remains empty.

Everything worked until Thunderbird 91.10, then I upgraded to 102.2.2 and that NNTP server stopped working. Trying to use the upgraded profile, where I was already subscribed to multiple newsgroup from the above server, I'm not able to retrieve any message. Nor I'm able to refresh the newsgroup list.
Here I've posted the steps with a clean account to shows that it seems unrelated to the upgrade.

Cesare.

WFM on trunk.

WFM stands for Works For Me, I suppose.

I've tested 102.2.2 64 bit both under Debian Linux and Windows 11 but I've experienced the same problem already with 102.1.2.

Will be fixed in next 102 release, thanks.
