Steps to reproduce:
Problem with Gmail password auto-fill
-
Connect to Gmail in PRIVATE mode using bookmark:
https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&continue=https://mail.google.com/mail/ -
I get prompted for my master (or whatever you call it now) password, which I enter.
-
I get a list of 4 possible Gmail accounts. I choose my main one:
DonaldEarlWeimer@Gmail.com and hit either enter on the keyboard or on the login screen (same results). -
Rather than auto-filling my password, I get a list of IDs again (see screen shot).
Actual results:
Several releases/months ago the password was auto-filled. Now it isn't, for any of my accounts. I didn't report this earlier because I thought it would get fixed.
Expected results:
My password should have been filled in, so all I had to do is hit/click enter.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Form Autofill' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hi, Thank you for reporting the issue and sorry for the late reply.
I tried to reproduce this issue but cannot reproduce it on my platform.
Could you help gather debug logs so we can investigate this issue? Thanks!
You can see this page for how to gather logging (There is also a instruction video).
Also, does this issue only occur on Gmail's sign-in page? If yes, does this issue happen on the "email" field of the sign-in page?
Dimi Lee -
Thanks for the reply. Being retired, I don't check my e-mail every day so don't worry if your reply is a day or two "late".
- I will upload the information you requested (or ask for help) in a day or two.
- Gmail is the only site I use that has the ID & Password on separate screens/pages. This problem DOES happen with all 4 of my Gmail accounts. Please let me know if you know of a site that does the ID & PW separately (and where I can create multiple accounts).
Thanks,
- Don

HI Ailea, could you help check whether you can reproduce this bug? Thanks!

Hi Dimi,
I tried to reproduce the issue on Windows 10, on latest Nightly 107.0a1 build and Release 105.0.3, in Private Window with Primary Password enabled. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce the behavior described, on my end the password is successfully auto-filled for all Gmail accounts saved.

The severity field is not set for this bug.
:serg, could you have a look please?
For more information, please visit auto_nag documentation.
"Dumb" Question: How do I attach the browser log text file to this bug? I don't see an obvious attach or download button. This is my first, and - I hope - only bug.
Thanks,
- Don

Hi Donald,
Do you already have the log file? If yes, There is an "Attach New File" button under "attachment" sections.
If no, see this video for how to capture a log.
Really appreciate for your kindly help!

@Donald you can add the browser log test file using the Attach New File button from the Attachments section. There you can use "Browse a file" button or drag and drop the text file in the "File" area.
Edit: I did not refresh the page and didn't see Dimi already answered, sorry.

I hope this is what you wanted.
The add attachment is several screens down. I expected it on the 1st screen. That's why I couldn't find it.
Also, there was no audio on video you sent me a link to.

Hi Don, Thank you for collecting the log and I'm super sorry for the late reply, I was on a long vacation.
The log you collect is right, however, i forgot to ask you to choose "Multiprocess" in the browser toolbox (see attached screenshot). if possible, could you help dump the log again but choose the multiprocess radio box before saving the log? Thank you!

I'm sorry for taking so long to reply to your request.
I hope this is what you wanted. It took me a while to figure out how to do everything again.

Hi Don, really sorry for the late reply, I missed your comments.
Unfortunately, it seems that the console dump doesn't contain the password manager-related log, maybe you forget to set the preference?
Enable Debug Logging
1. Enter "about:config" in the URL bar.
2. You may see a warning screen cautioning you about changing advanced preferences. Click the button to ignore the warning.
3. Make sure all of the following prefs are set to 'true'. (Find a pref by entering its name in the "Filter" box at the top of the page. Toggle its value by either clicking the ⇌ (Toggle) icon or double-clicking the line.)
signon.debug
devtools.browserconsole.contentMessages
devtools.browserconsole.filter.error
devtools.browserconsole.filter.warn
devtools.browserconsole.filter.info
devtools.browserconsole.filter.log
devtools.browserconsole.filter.debug
4. Restart Firefox
If you have time and still willing to help us again, please help dump the log again with the above preference (and also select the multi-process checkbox!).
Thank you!

This screen shot shows that everything is turned on. If you're still not getting the information you need, please let me know how to get it.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Hi Don,
thank you for the log, that is helpful. it looks like Firefox did autofill the field after you select one of your account username from the autocomplete dropdown, however, after filling it, the website immediately navigates to the login page with password field (did you click the submit button after selecting the username entry?).
Since the second page contains the password field, Firefox offer the autocomplete dropdown again (with all 4 of your logins) so you can select your password. In summary, the two autocomplete dropdowns are actually different, the first one is for username and the second one is for password.
