I don't quite follow the description of the problem. Is it the Autocomplete causing problems? IF so, you can turn it off in Preferences->Navigator->Smart Browsing->Location Bar Autocomplete, or use the "advanced" button to change its behaviour. If it isn't autocomplete giving you problems, could you please have another go at explaining it?
the problem is that I type in a URL and it is a. redirected b. not found, reverting to about:blank (if in a new tab) c. probably changed in other ways I can't recall right now while there is a solution to the second, the first is not "fixable" while still keeping with the current "URL bar" concept. I am growing more and more attached to command lines as I use linux for longer, and I'd like the URL bar's purpose to less "informative" and more "practical."
Reporter, can you give an example for each problem you have with the URL bar? I doubt work can be done on it unless the developers can get an idea of your complaint. Meanwhile, please look at Bug 203102 and see it covers your b) and c) scenarios. Thanks.
My only request is for an option causing the URL bar to never be changed by anything but the user.
