RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1792604

(Reporter: millerm4321, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/105.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

With no user intervention necessary--and even with automatic check disabled--this version of Thunderbird will repeatedly announce a new version is available even when the software is up-to-date. This causes considerable confusion because the user must check each time in the event there IS an update available. That is sometimes the case.

Actual results:

When running, Thunderbird will cause the taskbar to elevate the icon itself will change color. Once the software is brought to the forefront, a window in the upper right section indicates Thunderbird was not able to access the update. The user is there given the choice either to go to the website or ignore. Again, this happens without any prior action on the part of the user.

Expected results:

There should only be some sort of notification when/if there is a version of Thunderbird in the particular channel that is NEWER than that located on the local machine.

Apologies for the duplication. Please ensure I am included on the CC list for Bug 1792604, in addition to learning of the ultimate resolution. FWIW, I can CONFIRM the behavior described in the open bug. Moreover, as I stated in my write up, I can Update the bug to note the user is required to check each time the notification appears. There has been one actual upgrade (102.3.1) among all of the false notifications. Updating the software did not eliminate the problem identified in the bug. Regards.
