When using the upload tool for photos in yahoo groups there is no prompt to
accept a plug-in that enables this feature. According to yahoo help:
How do I use the Upload Tool?
Depending on which browser you are using, the Upload Tool is either an ActiveX
control or a plug-in that will assist you in locating and uploading multiple
images. It is only available for users of Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater on
Windows 95/98, NT, and 2000, and Netscape 4.51 on Windows 95/98, NT, 2000 or Mac.
You'll need to download a 205K file once to enable this software. Follow these
steps:
1. Click on Add Photo. Select the Upload Tool link in the yellow bar at the
top of the page. Click the Yes and Continue buttons in the security dialog box
to begin downloading the upload tool to your computer.
2. In the left-hand frame, browse your hard drive to find photos to upload.
When you click a folder on the left, thumbnail-sized images of the photos on
your computer's hard drive are displayed in the frame on the right. To display a
list of all your folders that contain images click the All Photos Folders tab in
the left-hand frame.
3. Select images to upload from the thumbnails on the right by checking the
box below each desired thumbnail. To add a title to your photo, click Add Title
and enter one. Select as many images as you want from a folder, then click the
Upload Photos button. You can upload up to 5MB of pictures at a time.
4. If you would like to resize all the photos you are uploading, select a
size (large, medium, or small) from the resize box at the bottom of the
right-hand pane.
5. When your photos are selected, titled, and sized correctly, click Upload
Photos to send them to your album.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Goto groups page in groups.yahoo.com
2. Goto photo area
3. Click add photo
4. Click launch upload tool
5. Blank page appears.
Actual Results:
Big white square
Expected Results:
Launch upload tool plug in

Do you see the plugin in help/about Plugins ?
It's possible that the plugin installer doesn't support mozilla and you must
manually copy the plugin in mozilla's dplugin directory.
BTW: Which Build ID / Version Do you use ?
Please always include the version in your bug report.
> Do you see the plugin in help/about Plugins ?
Fairly sure it's not there - at least nothing that mentions Yahoo!
> It's possible that the plugin installer doesn't support mozilla and you must

If I could find where to get it from. It mentions compatibility with netscape
which is why I assumed it should work with mozilla, but I expect I could be
wrong about this.
> BTW: Which Build ID / Version Do you use ?

I used to get this information from help | about mozilla, but since 1.2b it only
says: Mozilla
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
The build ID at the page top says 2002101612
I've just checked the Yahoo groups, and I don't see any link mentioning any
plugins. The only way to upload photos is the usual "browse/submit" kind of form.
When in the add photo mode you have 2 options:
Option 1. Upload Tool
Use this tool to upload large quantities of photos, rotate images and directly
add names to photos.
Launch Upload Tool
Option 2. Browse and Upload
I open my favorite group and go to Photos -> Add Photo. All I have there is:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Photos Photos Help
Add Photos
Back to Album
Add photos to: Photo Albums
Browse and Upload
Click Browse to locate each photo on your computer. Be sure to click Upload when
you are done. (Total upload cannot exceed 5MB for accounts). If you do not enter
a name, your photo's name will be used.
Photo 1: [........................] [Browse]
Name: [........................]
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Plugin is nowhere to be mentioned.

Now I get this message:
The Yahoo! Photos Upload Tool may need to be installed or updated.
Checking current version, please wait...
If the Upload Tool needs to be installed or updated, there will be a short delay
while the software is downloaded. When asked to grant additional privileges, you
must choose the Grant option in order to continue installation.
Once you have completed the installation process, click Refresh below to load
the Upload Tool.
Note: In some rare instances you may receive an error message indicating that
the certificate is not valid (error # -8156). To bypass this error, click the OK
button on the error messages and restart Netscape. The Upload Tool should
successfully load once you restart Netscape.

Would you please give the EXACT URL for the problematic page? I still am unable

what is the name of the plug-in that is supposed to be installed? Does the yahoo
site have an faq that tells you that information? Does the yahoo site have a
link for you to go to a download page? Does the yahoo site explain where the
plug-in will be installed? Is there a file that gets saved to your desktop (some
exe or something)?

Please re-read line 6 of the problem description which begins "According to

If nobody is to supply the URL where the problem occurs. I will close this as
INVALID. The URL given in the URL field of this bug results in ""briefcase not
exists" message, and no word about any plugins!

OK it appears that Yahoo have acknowledged there is a problem with this feature
and so have withdrawn it. It has been replaced by Y drive which can only be used
by Windows 98/ME computers, so it needs some improvement still, but this bug is
no longer valid.
