Steps to reproduce:
I'm trying to select a line of text by pressing the Cmd + Shift + Arrow Left/Right key combination.
Actual results:
Nothing happens.
Expected results:
The line of text should be selected. This key combination only works inside a text field, not on the site itself. But it works in Safari and the whole system!

This does not work for me in Safari if not in a text field. Could you provide an example page where this works? What version of macOS and Firefox are you using?

It even works on this page! Start selecting any text and then press Cmd + Shift + ←/→
It works in Safari, not in Firefox.

In the latest version of Firefox (124.0b5), I still have no way to select a line of text while holding down Cmd + Shift + Left/Right Arrow. The latest version of Safari (17.3.1 (19617.2.4.11.12)) also has a bug that prevents you from selecting a line of text using this key combination. But this seems like a regression because in the most recent version of Safari Technology Preview Release 189 (Safari 17.4, WebKit 19619.1.3.2) everything works fine. Of course this works throughout the entire system. By the way, I have the latest version of macOS Sonoma - 14.3.1 (23D60). And I'm not talking about text fields where you can enter text. I'm talking about regular pages like this one. Try, for example, using the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Shift + left/right arrow to select a title on this page. You won't succeed!
On Windows, I never had any problems with this and I could easily select a line of text in both Chrome and Firefox by pressing the Shift + Home/End key combination (if I don’t confuse anything). On macOS this only works in Safari. For some reason this key combination does not work in Firefox and Chrome.

I have confirmed that in my testing, all browsers appear to exhibit this behavior and this appears to be the expected behavior now, even if this may have worked differently in the past. Please let us know if you are still able to select text as you had originally reported and I can reopen this bug. If so, it would help to know what other apps you've tried to select text in, besides browsers.

Yes, it used to work only in Safari, but now it doesn't work there either 🙁 Now the Cmd + Shift + Arrow Left/Right key combination in Safari switches between tabs (if the focus is not in a text field). In Windows, there is another key combination for this purpose (Shift + Home/End (if I haven't forgotten anything)), which worked perfectly ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE 👍 As soon as I switched to Mac, I was very surprised that in macOS it only works inside a text field, but not on the page itself 😯 By the way, I am using the latest version of macOS — Sequoia 15.5 (24F74). Moreover, this looks like a clear flaw on Apple's part, because in the "About This Mac" window, where there are no text fields where you can enter text, this key combination (Cmd + Shift + Arrow Left/Right) works perfectly 👌
P. S. Now I'm really curious to know how Safari behaves in the new, not yet released macOS Tahoe 26? 🤔

What's even stranger is that the Option + Shift + Left/Right Arrow key combination for selecting words works fine not only inside text fields, but also on regular pages. So if we follow this logic, then the Cmd + Shift + Left/Right Arrow key combination should work not only inside text fields. This really does look like a bug on Apple's side.

The Shift + Left/Right Arrow key combination also works without problems to select text by letters. It turns out that only the Cmd + Shift + Left/Right Arrow key combination does not work to select a line. To select a line in macOS, you have to reach for the mouse, which is not always convenient 🖱️ A very strange and serious flaw that for some reason has not been fixed yet 🤷♂️
