User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/107.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
I have an account with 160k unread emails. I have used "mark folder as read".
U am working with stock Ubuntu 20.10, with Wayland, under Nvidia propretiary driver.
Actual results:
Thunderbird application becomes unresponsive (sort of expected), but it apparently stops responding properly to the Gnome, which constantly pops "Window not responding / Wait / Force Quit" dialog window.
Expected results:
I would expect that operation on email box would be done in the other thread than the UI so that app is not frozen and used is not suggested by (in this case) Gnome that the app is hung.
The application should be able to respond to check-alives sent by mutter

Actually the account is connected to via POP, not IMAP (but I use IMAP for all other, but much smaller accounts).

Does this still reproduce for you?
If it does, please collect a protocol log for pop. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging

Mateusz, it is difficult to provide assistance to abandoned bug reports. Additional comments will be helpful.
