Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:108.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/108.0

Steps to reproduce:

Recently I very often have the problem that the cursor in a text field (the blinking vertical bar) disappears. I have had this problem on Mattermost, Zulip, and Discourse, so it doesn't seem like a website bug to me.

  • Go to some discourse forum (I am on https://discourse.llvm.org/)
  • Start writing a post. Select some text in there and hit Ctrl-C. Then de-select the text.

Actual results:

The text cursor becomes invisible, so now I cannot see where I will be typing any more.

Expected results:

The text cursor should stay visible.

I can bring the cursor back by going to another tab and then back to the tab with the text field.

This is on Debian testing in a KDE Wayland session.

Component: Untriaged → DOM: Editor
Product: Firefox → Core

Can you reproduce this with a clean profile?

S3 unless more people are able to reproduce, in which case it should be S2.

Severity: -- → S3

I can no longer reproduce this after just updating to 109.0b5. Earlier today, before the update, I still had the problem. So either it only occurs when Firefox runs for a while, or it was just fixed by the update.

I have just experienced this behavior again. So, it is not fixed, but requires some extra steps I have not figured out yet to reproduce.

It doesn't just seem to be Ctrl-C either. Using alt-tab to switch between windows can also make the cursor invisible. And almost even more strangely, after two alt-tab (to switch to another window and back), the cursor position can be different: if I just keep typing at this point, text appears at the wrong spot. This is all quite mysterious.
