Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/109.0
Steps to reproduce:
copy/paste of special characters, such as the 'thumb-up' character, worked a few weeks ago but no longer works.
Actual results:
see a special character in a received google voice text message, copy it and paste it into a reply no longer works, eg: 0?
da
Expected results:
after the eg: above i pasted 5 characters 0?xda, but the x is actually a 'thumb-up' special character as received in a google voice sms message, the sender likely sent it from android google voice. a few weeks ago i was able to copy and paste these characters, now i can't. How would we know whether the regression is with google voice, with firefox, or with some linux library? maybe mozilla regression might shed some light

I could not reproduce on Ubuntu 20.04 using Firefox build 109.0(20221211212505), but I do not have an Android device to copy from, and copied thump-up from Goggle chat works ok for me. Can you please attach about:support page settings and also the exact example that does not work for you.
You can try an older version of Firefox and see if the problem is from FF (link to builds - https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/) . Please let me know your results. Thank you.
A week ago it failed in both firefox nightly and chromium. Today it works in firefox nightly, and i'm not bothering to update my chromium. Looks like somebody already nailed it for firefox.

Mark as Workforme. If still reproducible please reopen. Thank you.
well ever since comment 2 it doesn't work for me in nightly or chromium. makes me wonder what exactly causes this issue to play hide and seek. did i mention i'm running tumbleweed? and, i'll be away for 37 days so won't be responding meanwhile.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Layout: Text and Fonts' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I don't think this is a Layout issue at all. It's either something to do with the platform integration code (e.g. the clipboard support in widget/gtk/), or it's outside Firefox entirely, such as changes to how Google Voice messages are being encoded.
Moving to Widget: Gtk for further consideration.

Can you use mozregression tool to find broken commit?

Thanks.

tried mozregression, tried numerous dates, today they all work. tried chromium(111.0.5563.64 openSUSE Build stable 64-bit), it failed. tried over again, being more careful to watch for any difference between "select, middleclick" and "select, ^C, ^V, and they just all worked, even in chromium. ich verstehe nicht. i'm open to suggestions or requests.
