Acceptance Criteria

Firefox search engines and their icons should match desktop.

Design docs for Firefox.

Android Firefox:

Update the Amazon, DuckDuckGo, and Wikipedia icons. Fixed in 

Update the order of the search engines: Google, Amazon, Bing, DDG, eBay, Wikipedia.

[gl] Please see comments below - the spirit of this task is to align the order of our search engines with desktop for all locales and not necessarily to follow the order that is outlined here which is only applicable to “en-US” locale.

One thing I'm wondering about, is why not adjust the order of the engines in the code rather than the configuration?

You would need to keep track of the application/original default engine (rather than the user's) - to put that one first, but the rest would then be in alphabetical order.

Or is there something else that's stopping this happening? (user's added engines?).

After further evaluation, the team has decided with Michael Verdi's approval (from whom the original request came), that we will be pursuing the longer but better way. That would be to have a remote source which gets updated as soon as desktop config changes. Mobile will then extract from this remote source so it will always be in sync with desktop. This would be the ideal way since we won't have to manually change the configuration every time to stay in sync with desktop. We are starting to work towards it and the jira task is linked herewith : https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/FNXV2-22079

Closing this as per Sarah's preceding comment. The epic she linked will have more info as we start formulating concrete plans for reaching full parity with Desktop.
