(Whiteboard: [hardware acceleration])
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:107.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/107.0
Steps to reproduce:
Most instances when I open the application, Thunderbird automatically starts downloading new messages from external servers. While messages download I try to navigate through different folders or calendars.
Actual results:
I am often not able to navigate due to the application loading, seemingly experiencing a bandwidth bottleneck. New windows sometimes take several minutes to load, or not at all (showing "Thunderbird not responding" in the window bar). Even clicking a link from within a message or the application drop down menu will take several minutes at times.
Expected results:
I expect messages to download in the background, while retaining full uninhibited functionality (no delays).

Check third party applications that may interfere (antivirus/firewall).

- Please start Windows' in safe mode with networking enabled https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
- Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in Troubleshoot mode

Does problem go away?

Yes, running thunderbird in troubleshoot mode seems to run smoother. I will test for a few more days (to build a better average response with variable email intake). When running in this mode, what is being affected?

After running this in troubleshoot mode for many weeks, changing only one thing at a time, I found that turning off 'hardware acceleration' solved the issue.
