I'd like to have new windows come up with the sidebar open automatically if the
last window had it open. Check out mail.app that does this. I use the sidebar
constantly, so I almost always open it anyway.

i know we WONTFIX'd a bug that this would be a dupe of a long time ago. someone
should check resolved/verified bugs.
Bug 154862. Slightly different but similar. I still think it's a good idea. I
run with the sidebar open almost all the time now, so everytime I open a new
window ...
