Steps to reproduce:

All I did was agree to update.
Updated from v.107 to v. 108.
I have been using Firefox for a very long time with only one continuing problem which occurred a few versions back:
Tabs always looked like actual folder tabs. With some Bugzilla guidance, I was able to have my "tabs on top" and also the active tab was in color. The only problem at the time was that the entire row of tabs would "vibrate"from side to side, but I was able to live with that. If the rightmost tab was active, the vibration of the entire row stopped.

Actual results:

Updating from v.107 to V.108 caused all "tabs" to disappear. Instead they are just written, side-to-side, near the top of the window with no tab-like appearance or color differentiation for the active tab. On a positive note, they now do not vibrate.

Do you remember what steps you followed to customize Firefox? Could you please use the attach button to attach a txt file with a copy of the data from the about:support page, so we can see which add-ons or settings could be involved in the customization being lost after the update?

Thank you for getting back to me.
Unfortunately, I'm an 88 year old with a failing memory. Several modifications were made to Firefox a few years ago (with guidance from a Bugzilla volunteer). As I recall, he was making similar changes to his own computer as well. All was working nicely ever since, prior to updating to v. 108.
My memory has since deteriorated somewhat and I can no longer recall how to access the info you need.
Any detailed guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Since enclosing the required information, the entire Bugzilla page indicates "updating". This has not changed for over 2 days.
How can I "free up" the page? I tried closing it and reloading with same result.

Updating from v.107 to V.108 caused all "tabs" to disappear. Instead they are just written, side-to-side, near the top of the window with no tab-like appearance or color differentiation for the active tab. On a positive note, they now do not vibrate.

So based on the screenshot you sent me that I just attached, these are effectively the "normal" tabs that Firefox ships with by default.

The normal hypothesis when configuration gets lost like this is that there is some way that there was accidentally a "Firefox refresh" ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings ) that restored default settings - but from the about:support data it's very clear that all your settings and add-ons are heavily customized (and they would normally be reset if you ran "Firefox refresh"), so I'm not sure that's the case here.

However, you also have Firefox sync set up (which is preserved when people use Firefox refresh) and so I wonder if that's what brought the add-ons and settings back.

You could check on your desktop for a folder labelled "Old Firefox data" or similar. If it exists and has one or more subfolders that are relatively recent in terms of date, see if there's a "chrome" subdirectory in one or more of them. If so, you could try copying that folder back to your main profile folder (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile ) and enabling the pref toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets in about:config.

Let us know if that helps in any way, or if none of those folders exist.

Found "Old Firefox Data" on the desktop as you suggested and located the "Chrome" sub-directory. The only entry there was dated 1/1/2023.
In spite of that, I pasted that into my existing Firefox account (hoping for the best).

Now, opening Firefox Release Notes, it shows Firefox Release 107.0.1 November 29, 2022. It has some of the "Old look" for the tabs, although still no colors or curved upper corners as was present in my old version 107. However, tabs now display the entire title, as opposed to only the 1st word in my v.108 that I sent you. (I'll try to forward a new screenshot of the tabs as they now exist. Please look for the email.)

Missing still is the upper bar on the page which used to list Help, Bookmarks, etc. Any thoughts as to how to recover that?

Although the release notes refer to version 107.0.1, it lists the option to update to the latest version 109.0. This "improved" version of Firefox still retains the look and feel of v. 108 but I don't dare to update and lose what I have gained so far.

You can right click on the empty space on the toolbar, to the left of the address bar, and then click "menu bar", to get the menu bar back.

With respect to the appearance of the tabs, unfortunately at this point it sounds like you've got a userChrome.css file that sort of works, but not completely. This site is Firefox's bugtracker - making your CSS file do exactly what you want isn't, as it were, a bug in Firefox. I'm going to close out this bugreport for now as there doesn't seem to be something in Firefox we can change (for everybody!) that would fix the issue you're experiencing...

I'm not quite sure of what your current file is intending to do. I think that adding something like this:

  border-bottom-right-radius: 0 !important;

to the bottom might help. If you want a thicker border, you can change the "1px" to "2px" or increment the number still further to make it thicker. You can also choose a different colour ("red" or "blue" or any other value listed on this page instead of "black" in that snippet.

If you need more changes, I would encourage you to ask at the userchrome.org site, the r/FirefoxCSS forum on Reddit or the community-driven #firefoxcss room on Matrix (try the second link first if you're unfamiliar with the matrix chat environment). Unfortunately, I'm not really the best person to help you further with styling Firefox how you want - I'm happy with the standard styling, but I understand that not everybody is.

Either way I would encourage you to upgrade to 109 - there are security fixes in every Firefox release and we do our best to keep you safe on the web - but of course that only works if you use the latest version. :-)
