1. get mail with a .tiff attachment
2 [details] [diff] [review]. open mail in standalone window
3. double-click attachment
crash down in the plugin code, probably trying to load quicktime to show the
tiff. this is pretty serious as most mac users will be sending tiffs around as
attachments (screen shots, for example, are tiffs).
build from 2002102910, trunk. osx 10.2.2

You may need to file this bug will Apple. Does that TIFF display in a browser
window, in Preview, and in the Finder?

This is still broken in Mozilla 1.7b (2004032905) on Jaguar, and I was alerted
to it by someone using 1.6 on Panther.
The same tiff will display perfectly in a Mozilla browser window, and in Apple
Mail, Safari, and Quicktime Player.
This only happens if the image is attached and double-clicked. If the image is
inserted into an html mail message, Mozilla simply does not display the picture
or even any indication that there is an embedded image. I do have plug-ins
enabled for Mail/News (but viewing remote images in mail/news is turned off).

This also fails on Windows XP using Mozilla 1.6, but without the crash. Instead
Mozilla pops up a dialog box saying the Quicktime plugin performed an illegal
action, and Navigator must be restarted.
To see this you may need to go into the Control Panels --> Quicktime and set the
plugin to handle the tiff mime type.

Mike, stefan, joseph, do you still see this in any current mozilla-based mail software?

No, it works for me now. Thunderbird no longer tries to display the TIFF and sends it to an external viewer (Preview.app) - it now treats the TIFF like any other non-displayable file attachment.
