In case you don't already know, today (Fri Nov 5) is "Burn all gifs day" (see http://burnallgifs.org/). I would like to see gif support removed from mozilla, but I do not think that will happen because there are so many sites that use them. What would be easy to do would be to remove .GIF attachment support from bugzilla. Keep in mind that you could be sued for having this "attach as gif" option in bugzilla. What kind of file is this? Patch file (text/plain, diffs) Plain text (text/plain) HTML source (text/html) GIF Image (image/gif) JPEG Image (image/jpeg) PNG Image (image/png) Binary file (application/octet-stream) Other (enter mime type: ) Why not remove .GIF attachments from bugzilla? There are plenty of other good formats out there (like PNG). This would be a good thing for mozilla to do as an group because it would show people that you were serious about "free software" and it would limit your legal liability.

Since terry has a steaming pile of new bugs to deal with, I'm going to take the liberty of resolving this one as WONTFIX ... Bugzilla will need to support GIFs for as long as Mozilla itself does, else people won't be able to post test cases for problems with GIF rendering or whatever. And as for being sued, I see flying pigs outside my window ... If Mozilla ever stops supporting GIFs, or if Mozilla.org gets sued, then this bug can be reopened. But I'm not holding my breath for either occurrence.

Inserting self as QA contact and verifying as WONTFIX on behalf of QA. As long as there are GIFs on the 'net, there will be test cases involving GIFs. As long as there are GIF test cases, Bugzilla must support GIF attachments.
