User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:108.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/108.0

Steps to reproduce:

The Firefox Windows Menu (macOS version) used to list open windows in the order they are opened.

Actual results:

Now, open windows are listed alphabetically, based on the current open tab in that window. As a result, every time you change the open tab in a window, the name of the open window causes that window to change its position in the [open] Window menu.

This interferes because I often want to know which are my latest open windows that I might have opened only temporarily, so I can close them when I am done. But with lots of windows open, they get lost in the Alphabetical sort order and it is harder to track them down, resulting in a proliferation of open windows.

Expected results:

Keep the result of the open windows in the Window menu in the order the windows are open.

(Users still have the alternative if they want to see the list of open windows alphabetically... right-clicking on the Firefox icon in the macOS dock will list the open windows alphabetically.)

PLEASE FIX!

OR at least if this was intentional, provide the option to choose preference.

The ordering of this list is now controlled by macOS. See bug 1805692 comment 10 for more technical background.

You say it is NOW controlled by macOS BUT I am on macOS 10.14.4 and have not updated in YEARS and yet this change has taken place. So something else has happened. So not sure how you can mark this as Resolved. Please review.

We handed control over to macOS as of Firefox 108. It doesn't matter which version of macOS you are on. You will notice that other apps with multiple windows exhibit the same behavior on macOS, such as other browsers for example.

So you are acknowledging that Firefox has changed this behaviour. So how can this be controlled?

Is there a way to restore the original behaviour?

As per my submission, if this is by design, can there be an option introduced to restore the original behaviour? Or is there a way to control this behaviour in macOS on a per application basis (I suspect not)? If not, this is still an issue in need of a solution, and therefore this submission should be kept open.

P.S. The reason I choose to use FF is because IT IS NOT like other browsers!

Please provide an option to choose the sort order. Currently, it is no longer practical when one has many open windows and tabs.

Making this optional would mean that we would lose out on OS-provided functionality, such as tiling of windows to the right and left to the screen, diamond icons next to minimized windows etc. However, Apple does value feedback such as yours and you may do so via the Feedback app, or https://www.apple.com/feedback/.
