User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 Trying to print ANY web page gives Printer error: No printer could be found. If I clear error, I get a print preview error after that. Printing works fine in IE and in other programs, but same error (just the first error) occurs in Netscape 7. The printer is Brother HL-1250. It is set to print directly to printer (no spooling). Updating/reinstalling printer driver doesn't fix problem. Note: I first downloaded Mozilla 1.1. I got the first error (No printer...), but when I cleared the error the printer dialogue box came up and I was able to print. Installing the current beta version made me unable to print again. Netscape 6.2 worked fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Launch Mozilla 2.Click on Print 3. Actual Results: Printer error: There was a problem printing. No printer could be found. After clicking okay, get: Print Preview error: Printing failed for some reason. Expected Results: Should have gotten print dialog box.

FYI: If Adobe Acrobat is active within the browser (i.e., I'm looking at a PDF file), then clicking on the Mozilla Print button gives me the dialog box as it should, and I can print. Once I go back to a regular web page, though, I go back to getting the errors.

Having same problem in Windows XP - trying to print web pages and email gives Printer error: No printer could be found. Printing works fine in other programs. The printer is HP officejetd135. Updating/reinstalling printer driver doesn't fix problem.

I'm having the same problem with a build of mozilla 1.2.1. Can't even print to a file and then print that one. This is on RedHat Linux 8.0 with CUPS. The mozilla in question is compiled against gtk+-2.2.0 and glib-2.2.0. The other mozilla I have on my system, installed from RPMs, can print just fine. Here are the package versions: [jason@go jason]$ rpm -qa | grep mozilla mozilla-js-debugger-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-chat-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-devel-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-nss-devel-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-nss-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-dom-inspector-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-psm-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-mail-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-nspr-1.2-0_rh8 mozilla-nspr-devel-1.2-0_rh8 Thanks!

I wonder if Bug 181213 might be a duplicate of Bug 130083. The problem is the same (Printer not found) and some of the comments under the latter bug indicate that the workaround does not work. Or, perhaps those comments should have been made under 181213 instead of 130083.

I wanted to add these comments from 193144 here as they may be of value. I had filed this as a new bug since my problems were not apparent in 1.2.1, the issues in this bug were. If I use the 1.2.1 20021217 release printing works fine with the same user profile, other applications (staroffice etc.) can print fine the issue only appears with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030211 Printing to network printer.

Moving from Mox 1.2.1 to 1.3b and 1.3nightly2003-03-05 brought this bug to pester me. Moving back to 1.2.1 allows me to print, so something has changed wihtin the 1.3 Solaris7 builds (running under Solaris9).

This bug is still alive in the latest Mozilla 1.3 running under Solaris 2.8 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030314 (using mozilla-sparc-sun-solaris2.7-1.3.tar.gz) Is there anything I can do for helping fixing this?

I'm also using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030314 from mozilla-sparc-sun-solaris2.7-1.3.tar.gz under Solaris 8 and get the "Printer not found" error. Verified that I had the XPrint patches 108897-01 and 108652-64 from SunSolve. Let me know if I can help!

I also have this problem. We need a fix or workaround. Other applications print fine and lpstat shows a default printer defined. Started mozilla after removing prefs.js and localstore.rdf and still had the problem. Also create a new blank profile and had the problem. Me too, having same bug on Solaris SPARC with 1.3final. No idea what to test; obviously I can't run the .exe that Rod attached in November. Is there any more information I can collect or more configuration information that would help? This seems pretty serious to me.

Printing works for me if I use the 1.3 final build made by Sun: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.3/mozilla-sparc-sun-solaris2.8-1.3.tar.gz

My summary is: + The nighlty Solaris 2.6 build does not exibit the printer bug, but crashes when using the java plugin. + The mozilla 1.3 final Solaris 2.7 build still has this printer bug. + The mozilla 1.3 final Solaris 2.8 build from SUN is printer OK, but presents the 100% table width bug (IDs: 102981 and 185949). In the bug ID 185949 it states that the table problem is fixed when compiled with -xO2 (instead of -xO5). Maybe Sun could resubmit another build?

C.Reck: | + The mozilla 1.3 final Solaris 2.8 build from SUN is printer OK, no, this is not OK. printing with Postscript/default leads to heap corruption and you crash sooner or later

Problem still exists with 2.7 SPARC nightly from today. is there really nothing I can do to help diagnose this? Printing is really important, isn't it?
Comment 25•21 years ago

I should note: for me this has nothing to do with a local printer; I only ever use network printers. (Meaning, of course, "a printer command that names a printer".) How does Mozilla find printers on Unix? Doesn't it have to be some sort of user configuration option? Can I check that option, somehow?

With the GISW Xprint package installed, I can see printers and print to them. Is Xprint really honestly *required* on Solaris now? There's no way to use the fallback to "Default/Postscript" and an lp command?

I still can't successfully print; someone makes the page scale to 1/4 of the physical page. I know everyone has their own pet peeve, but if this really is affecting every Solaris user, I can't figure out why there isn't any action at all on this issue yet. I'm hoping it's something in my personal config, but I continue not to know how to diagnose that. Any help gratefully appreciated.

I am using mozilla 1.4final on Win98SE PL client. Browser nor Mail module cannot print, ending with 'No printer could be found' message. The printer is a network printer HP Laserjet 4P attached to linux server. When the printer was localy connected to LPT1 port everything was OK. Changing options with spool or other printer config data was not any solution. Changing to mozilla 1.5 beta does not solve the printing problem as well. On the other hand previously installed netscape 6.2.2 printed in the same configuration without any problem.

More facts to #28. I had connected additional local printer to lpt0 port and made it default. This configuration allows to print. Browser shows printer dialog and prints even if printing is redirected to the network printer. Anyway, in the last case after such change, it is not possible to print second time and the error repeats. Apparently the bug is due to some checking for existence of the printer and then, if OK the printer dialog is shown. Otherwise print fails. The workaround would be if the Windows Print Dialog will appear regardless the status of printer checking.

This bug appears to be a duplicate of bug <a href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133013">133013</a> I will include the comment here I just put in that bug. I am having the same problem with Solaris 2.8 and Mozilla 1.4: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030701 I was definitely able to print in one of the Solaris 2.6 builds I downloaded sometime in June 2003. I was wondering if it's just a matter of setting the proper environment variables?

marking WFM based on esce's comment 34 ... problem occurred with "no spooling" and shares / networked printers (Juergen is unreachable to confirm). Solaris is covered in bug 195065 - please visit and hang your hat there rather than reopening and morph this into a solaris bug. BEOS is Bug 133013. Leaving this OS=ALL even though it's being marked WFM for the windows issues. Please reopen with specific details if you can reproduce a windows issue with a current trunk build. (W98/WME users might first consult bug 130083)
