From github: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/19863.
Used to be able to swipe down almost anywhere on tab tray to close it, but that doesn't seem to work on latest Nightly after that new reworked tab tray with synced tabs.
Steps to reproduce
Open tabtray and have some tabs open and try to swipe down to close it.
Expected behavior
Allow to swipe down anywhere on tab tray to close it.
Actual behavior
Now you can close it like that only when tab tray is empty.
Device information
- Device vendor / model and Android version: OnePlus 7T Pro, Android 10.
- Firefox for Android version: Firefox Nightly 91.0a1

Does the tabs tray rewrite fix this?

I think the desired closing behavior described here is to have it work like the app drawer in the stock/pixel launcher: you can swipe up and down to scroll until you hit the top of the list, in which case another swipe down closes the tab tray.
Currently, you can only close the tab tray by swiping down from the tab tray header.
This change, together with reversing the order in which tabs are added, would lead to almost never having to reach for the tab tray header.

@Jeff, this "bug" is still present. This requires input from UX though since it's been in the app so long now and I'm not sure what their thoughts are here.
I'll add it to a list I'm working on for future tabs tray enhancements to consider.
