Doesn't work for me using build 2002112008. Fortunately, I use a logitech mouse and so can use the logitech control centre in the preferences to configure the middle mouse to send a cmd-middle click which does open a separate tab.

What h/w are *you* using? I was using a PowerBook G4/800 DVI, with Logitech Mouseman Optical. That's the only Mac h/w I can try, w/o moving h/w around. Max.
