Summary

Google Account 2FA not working with my YubiKey 5C Nano (5.4.3), Google returns:

There was a problem
Try using your security key again or try another way to verify it’s you

Error happens in nightly, stable works fine, yesterday's build (firefox-nightly-111.0a1+20230202.1+h3387e4f266f0) worked fine as well.

Environment

OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: 6.1.9-arch1-1
firefox-nightly Version: 111.0a1+20230203.1+hba5f6662ca80-1
firefox Version: 109.0.1-1

duplicate of bug 1814812?

Can't try to re-register the key unfortunately .. Ordered & registered the YubiKey in August 2022, that I can tell.

Can you confirm that flipping security.webauthn.ctap2=false on Nightly makes it work again?

Flags: needinfo?(ahoneiser)

We learned in Bug 1814983 that Google Accounts is still using the legacy U2F protocol for registrations from Firefox. So August 2022 is within the timeframe for this to be Bug 1814722. We'll have a fix for that shortly. As a temporary workaround you can set security.webauthn.ctap2=false.
