User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/110.0
Steps to reproduce:
Try to autofill credit card details for a payment
Actual results:
Nothing. Brief flash of content, but nothing pasted. It has to be done manually: name, number, exp. date. Other kinds of form filling works as before.
Expected results:
Autofill as before.
This was working properly under Win 7 pro 64-b , but it does not on a (very) new machine with Win 11. Profile completely functional otherwise after copying across.
This machine has (as yet) no password. That might be relevant since that step is at present not meaningful. Perhaps a separate PIN should be instituted?

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Password Manager' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Dr B W Darvell, sorry for the late reply.
Can you describe how was the upgrade from Win7 to 11 done? Was it a clean install of Win11 and manual copy of Firefox profile directory?
Do you have any logins stored in Firefox? Are they working or broken too?

Late: not a problem.
It was a completely new machine, and after installing FF I used my account to set up everything (but to be honest I cannot now remember the detail of that - there was an awful lot to contend with at the time).
Logins: I have not noticed any other problem.

I suspect that if you try to edit credit card details, you will find that number is not displayed and after entering it again it should start filling as you expect?

I did try switching off and back on, to no effect.
OK, now deleted and re-entered. We'll see what happens next time I have a transaction and report accordingly.
Thanks.

Thank you. I suspect this has to do with the fact that encryption key changed. Completely new machine will not have the same encryption key as old one had (in case of Windows, it's stored in Credential Manager under Firefox Encrypted Storage entry). There is nothing actionable for us in this bug, so I'm going to close it. Please reopen if you get more details.

Oh, right ... so that means that using the same account on other machines will have the same problem? I need to test on my laptop then ...
(If you close it I'll not be able to post, so how do I re-open?)
Thanks.

There should be a "REOPEN" button at the bottom of the page.
When you say "same account" you mean "same Microsoft Account"? I don't think it syncs that encryption key. If you mean "Firefox Account" then it syncs across devices and each device encrypt it with local key. But moving profile folders between seemingly different OS accounts would not transfer that local encryption key and will produce effect similar to what you've experienced.

reopen: OK
MS - no, FF.
I do not think I copied wholesale as I would not have expected that to work. But anyway, we'll see what happens.
Thanks.

Suggested solution worked - many thanks.
I wonder whether the cause of failure could be detected and announced, and thus the solution? Perhaps too rare to be worth the trouble?
Anyway, the bug can be closed.
Thanks again.
