Steps to reproduce:
I click on a pdf attachment. I
t shows correctly in a thunderbird tab.
I exit thunderbird
I start thunderbird
The tab showing the pdf is corrupted
I go to the original message and pick save for the pdf attachment
It saves a 27 byte file
Actual results:
Again, after restart it has a corrupted tab, and save attachment saves a 27 byte file
Expected results:
Tab should not be corrupted, and save should save the correct pdf file.
The IMAP server is gmail. My workaround is to go to gmail to download the uncorrupted pdf.
I am well aware that the 27 byte issue has been reported many times in many bug reports. I can't seem to find one that has not been closed, which is why I'm opening a new one.

As far as I can tell, yours is the only one which is open https://mzl.la/3Zoi2i3
The last fixed one is Bug 1805186 - When no offline store, make IMAP store the full message fetch to cache2 (disk or optionally memory) and never fetch parts. Should fix all the "27 byte" attachment bugs.

I think the fix for Bug 1805186 is just in daily and not in beta. If it actually is in beta, then this is a bug since what the reporter describes is one of the problems that Bug 1805186 is supposed to fix.
(FYI, the problem the user describes, as well as other 27-byte issues, only occurs on imap mailboxes not using offline store.)

1805186 is on beta 111, but not in beta 110.
km, to get the fix you will need to update to 111. Automatic updates are not yet enabled, so you may want to wait.
I'm game to move up to beta 111. How do I do that? Will it prevent me from getting updates past that point automatically?

Help > About. Unless you are on some linux distro. Then you'll need to figure it out.

Or here: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/111.0b4/win64/en-US/
You can adjust the path depending on your os type./version (e.g., win64) or your location-language (e.g., en-US).

I'm on the beta update channel which has been stuck at 110.0b4 (64-bit) for some time. This is on Ubuntu 22.04. I'm eager to move up to 111 since this bug hits me a great deal.

https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/111.0b4/linux-x86_64/en-US/thunderbird-111.0b4.tar.bz2
Just download this and unzip it anywhere (e.g., ~/Downloads/). It will produce a thunderbird directory. Inside the thunderbird directory you will see a "thunderbird" executable you can run from a command line. Or you can adjust your desktop shortcut links to point to and run that "thunderbird" instead of from /usr/bin or wherever it is currently pointing to, so you can just click to run 111beta instead of ubuntu's currently installed version.
It won't auto-update if you do this so you might need to manually check for new versions here:
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/beta/
or back at https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/ and looks for betas in the long list.
Or for formal releases here:
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/
I run kubuntu 20.04 and do this kind of thing all the time, so if you need more help feel free to send me an email.
You won't always get the latest beta/release from ubuntu so you'll have to to do this stuff manually.

If this doesn't get fixed by a comparable update from ubuntu please comment in the bug.
