Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0

Steps to reproduce:

This issue affects The Atlantic; I don't know if it affects others.

  1. Go to https://accounts.theatlantic.com/
  2. Enter the email address of an account saved in about:logins and press Continue
  3. After the password is automatically completed by Firefox, select "Reveal Password" from the context menu
  4. Press the "Show" button adjacent the password field. It toggles to "Hide" and the password remains shown.
  5. Press the "Hide" button in the password field.

Actual results:

The password remains shown after the "Hide" control is pressed, and the button toggles to "Show"

Expected results:

I don't know if it's possible to do anything about this, or if it is up to the site itself to sync the state of password visibility with its own password visibility controls.

:oneofthedamons thanks for sharing your concern with us!

This is because the web site implements own version of show/hide controls and it's not synchronized with in-browser support.
Same issue in Microsoft Edge (and I suspect other Chromium based browsers), they display reveal icon next to site's "show" inline and they aren't synchronized either.
