Details

(Whiteboard: [DOGFOOD][BETA][CRASH])

Build ID: 1999110808, others Platform: Mac OS only; not applicable to Linux, Win32 To reproduce: - Install RAM Doubler 8 version 8.0.1 - Install the latest Seamonkey build - Launch Seamonkey - Select File | Quit Result: You crash with a Type 3 error. Expected result: you shouldn't, even with RAM Doubler installed. I'm checking now to see if you don't crash without RAM Doubler. I'll report back in a bit.

RAM Doubler isn't the culprit here... I'm still trying to track down the problem. This is on a beige 266 MHz G3 running OS 8.5... Reassigning QA contact to elig.

I believe I've narrowed the crash down to these three extensions: MSL C.PPC.DLL MSL RuntimePPC++.DLL MSL RuntimePPC.DLL There are no versions present in the extensions themselves; they are dated June 3, 1997. I'll keep plugging away at this to see if it's just one that's causing the crash, and (possibly) what applications are using them (IE 4.5, OE 5, or Office 98).

OK, I found the culprit. If you have a clean System folder with only the MSL RuntimePPC.DLL extension added to it, you will crash with a type 3 error on quit. My apologies for intially blaming Connectix! - It seems that OE 5.0, IE 4.5, and Office 98 all refrain from installing that file in that location, so I'm frankly not sure what application or installer would put that extension there. It may be a 3rd party application, or a previous version of IE/OE. I'll contact Microsoft & report my findings later on this week.

OK, here's the final comment I'm going to make today: 1. This is a regression. Builds prior to November 5, 1999 do NOT crash at quit. 2. This is a serious problem because the MSL RuntimePPC.DLL file is installed by Communicator 4.x installers - it's part of the RealAudio components. Upgrading priority and severity.
elig was kind enough to point out that there was some discussion of this on an internal Netscape mailing list I'm not familiar with.
