User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/111.0

Steps to reproduce:

First I noticed this glitch on some web pages.

To get a pure reproduction, what I did was:

  1. open a new tab to about:blank
  2. open dev tools and edit <body> tag to contain the word flag: <body>flag</body>

Actual results:

On the page (outside of dev tools), this renders as ᴀag.

Not a regular ASCII capital A, but a similar looking but shorter character that's the same height as the lowercase a. There are two of these short capital As in unicode but I zoomed in to compare them both side by side and this is the right one. Despite the fact that the github page of homoglyphs that I got them from renders one as sans-serif and the other as serif, they both show with serifs in this font. But they aren't the same glyph. The sans-serif one is asymmetric but the serif one is symmetric.

Also I tried copying from the rendered text and pasting elsewhere and it appeared as "flag" when pasted outside of firefox.

A glitch also appears in wikipedia pages, just for "fl", but there it looks like the l renders as a second f overlaid on the character after it.

Not every instance of fl has this error. It does not appear on this bug report page.

Expected results:

The word flag rendered normally.

flag
ᴀag
ᴀꭺ

On closer inspection, the wikipedia case is rendering as ffi with some overlap.

And actually now this character is rendering incorrectly. It's looks like ffi outside of firefox, but it's looks like ffl or ffI in firefox.

Actually I installed ttf-ms-fonts pretty recently. I'll try removing that.

That fixed it.
