Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/111.0

Steps to reproduce:

I have been using Thunderbird for 10+ years on a Mac. I have the latest Mac OS update installed (13.3.1 (22E261)) and am on the update channel for Thunderbird.

I use subfolders extensively. At times, Thunderbird seems to spontaneously create copies of folders as new subfolders under the Local Folders folder.

Actual results:

I use subfolders extensively. At times, Thunderbird seems to spontaneously create copies of folders as new subfolders under the Local Folders folder.
Over the years this has resulted in cumbersome, garbled files--Yet I need the information in the files.

The only way to remove these extraneous folders seems to be a very tedious examination of the individual contents, followed by a copy-paste.

Expected results:

I would like the ability to merge an apparently superfluous copy of a folder with the folder it copies--including all subfolders.

Ideally this merge would recognize duplicate subfolders and emails , retaining only a single copy. But--at the least-I do not want to have to manually search for multiple copies of folders/subfolders/emails with the same name in order to find the emails contained within.
This greatly reduces the utility of Thunderbird for me, although I do not have a replacement.

I cannot include the "browser's user agent string" because I do not know what it is, nor how to find it. If you can direct me to it, I can provide it.
I can say that this is Firefox 111.0.1 (64-bit).

I don't think we'd add such functionality. Obviously the copies should never get created, but we lack info on how to reproduce those getting created.

Summary: files folders are hopelessly garbled on a Mac → would like the ability to merge an apparently superfluous copy of a folder with the folder it copies--including all subfolders.

The response seems reasonable, in that the problem is not reproducible.

Unfortunately, the garbled files/folders are a fact of life.
