Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0
Steps to reproduce:
Open a new tab.
Actual results:
Well, the new tab background is ...quite boring and dull!
Expected results:
Should be a setting (e.g. in the upper right settings gear) where the user could define the background color, cloud picture/image, photo/video (why not?) or whatever, at his will - thank you ;-)

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

This sounds like a great idea, picking a color for the new tab background or maybe a custom image would even give Theme creators a chance to make theirs better. Opening this as an enhancement.

Why was this never addressed?
Hi, Ugi! I'm not sure, I haven't been here very long :) However, I did hear that the home/new tab team is working on adding the ability to choose a custom solid color background. Bug 1952978 has some info and it looks like you need to enable the pref browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newtabWallpapers.customColor.enabled in about:config. I'm not sure which version(s) of Firefox have this in-development feature right now, but it's currently turned off by default.
Hope that helps! I'm sure the home/new tab team would be happy to hear any feedback you have if you try it out.

I think it's no longer behind a preference setting, but actually enabled by default. It's great, although, now I miss the feature on Firefox Mobile. I'm rooting for that now.
