Description
This bug has been around for a few months since at least 112. But the specifics of how this works in Daily may have changed over time.

On account creation, the setup can be stuck on "Checking password." Some email logins occur through a dialog (such as Google and Yahoo). Once a user fills out those fields and successfully logs in on the dialog, Thunderbird does not recognize that login. The user is stuck on "Checking password."

If I close the tab, I check in Account Settings for the account and it does not exist.

If I go to Settings > Account Settings > Account Actions > Add Mail Account and try to add the same email. I get an alert: "Error Creating Account: Incoming server already exists."

In today's Daily build on macOS, there is no way for me to successfully log in. Closing and reopening the application does not fix this problem.

If I was a new user, encountering this might make me decide not to use Thunderbird as setup could be difficult and confusing.

I usually am able to close the application and rereun it in development. This usually results in the account successfully being able to be added by me after going through the Add Mail Account steps on relaunch. When selecting Done, the application recognizes the login and is able to get to the add address books and calendars screen.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add a mail account that requires multi-factor authentication or uses a dialog for login
  2. Fill in email address
  3. Select Done
  4. Log in to mail account through dialog

Actual Results

  1. I continue to see "Checking Password"
  2. If I try to re-add the account, I get "Error Creating Account: Incoming server already exists"

Expected Results
On successful login, Thunderbird recognizes the login, tells me login was successful, and shows me address books and calendars I can connect to Thunderbird.

I tried this today with daily and development and was able to connect. This may have been a temporary problem. I will keep an eye on this and close this soon if I do not encounter it again.
