User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0

Steps to reproduce:

Open the following online PDF file: https://ia600503.us.archive.org/26/items/JewishHistoryJewishReligionTheWeightOf3000Years/Jewish.history.jewishReligion-the.weight.of.three.thousand.years.pdf

Actual results:

The first 3 pages display, but after that every page is blank.

Expected results:

All pages of the PDF should display properly.

If I download the PDF file and open it in MacOS's Preview the whole file displays properly.

I have a MacBook Pro - Retina - late 2013 running MacOS 11.7.3.

OS: Unspecified → macOS
Hardware: Unspecified → x86_64

The pages are not actually completely blank, there is a header line and a footer line containing the page number on each page. However the body of the page is blank.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Downloads Panel' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Downloads Panel
Component: Downloads Panel → PDF Viewer

I can't reproduce on Windows.

Another example: https://noharm.org/sites/default/files/lib/downloads/mercury/Mercury_in_Health_Care.pdf

Displays fine when downloaded and viewed in Mac Preview.

:calixte, could you have a look please?

Flags: needinfo?(cdenizet)

I can't reproduce the issue on either Windows 11 or on Mac (Pro M1) 13.3.1 :(.
This is likely a font issue... :jfkthame, would you have an idea on what could be wrong ?

Flags: needinfo?(cdenizet) → needinfo?(jfkthame)

I can't reproduce with either Firefox Release or Nightly on macOS (Intel) either.

I don't see why the display should fail after the 3rd page; the 4th page just continues the text in the same style. No idea what's going wrong for the reporter here, sorry.

Flags: needinfo?(jfkthame)

I tried to reproduce this issue on Windows 10 as well as Mac Osx 11.7.1 but the pages from the PDF files are loading correctly on my end.

QA Whiteboard: [qa-not-actionable]

I just retried it on my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" running MacOS 11.7.6 and it still happens for both files. I can post screen captures if that will help.

:Doug, does it make a difference in setting gfx.canvas.accelerated to false ?
If it doesn't make a difference could you attach to this bug your config available in about:support (you can use the Copy raw data to clipboard button on the top of the UI) ?

Flags: needinfo?(cdenizet) → needinfo?(dough)

That config change doesn't fix it.

Could you try to set browser.display.use_document_fonts to 1 ?

Setting browser.display.use_document_fonts to 1 fixes it. I don't remember ever changing that to 0. I wonder how that happened.

Thanks much!
