We've recently wanted to use ConformationHint in the address bar, but joshberman pointed out it's an a11y hazard:
WCAG A criteria
WCAG AAA criteria
Note, there is no AA for this success criterion.
This criteria equally applies to time limits on forms and automatic / timed movement like inline alerts that disappear or carousels that move automatically
It could be argued that this is not part of the criteria but I think that’s really not in the spirit of accessible design. We know people with certain disabilities struggle with content that appears/disappears absent any action on their part. It’s best to not include those patterns if possible.
We might want to add a mode that requires some kind of interaction, but as a first stopgap I think we should increase the timeout. 1.5 seconds or 4 seconds, respectively, are really fast even if this feature is intended for short messages that we consider okay to miss.
