RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1805924

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/113.0
Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

I'm sure I'm not imagining this, but until a few updates ago I'm pretty sure I was able to drag and rearrange all my extensions on my taskbar in any order I wanted. Now I can no longer do this and my extensions seem glued in position. I can move them around customise toolbar view. But I specifically want to be able to move an extension out of the overflow menu and on to the taskbar at the top of my Firefox window. This is where I used to be able to keep all my most used extensions. (It would save me searching through the overspill menu to find them). If my memory serves me correctly all I used to need to do was right click on an extension and then drag it with my trackpad to the desired position. I used to be able to move things from the overspill menu to the main extension taskbar using this method too. But now in 'customise toolbar' mode I can no longer even access the content of the overspill menu in order to be able to arrange my extensions in my preferred order. Is there a fix?

I am using Firefox 113 on a Mac mini M1 computer, with 8Gb of Ram.

Actual results:

Tried to change the order of my extensions in the overspill menu but I can no longer move these around.

Expected results:

I should be able to arrange my extensions on my toolbar in any order I wish, including those in the overspill menu.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'WebExtensions::Untriaged' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hello,

Would you be able to attach a video of the issue? I’m not sure what the bug you are observing actually is.

Currently, when extension are installed they go by default in the extensions panel (puzzle icon on the toolbar). They can no longer be added to the overflow menu.

Extension icons can be pinned to the toolbar (which moves them from the extensions panel to the toolbar) and vice-versa. This action can be performed by opening the extensions panel, clicking the gear button beside the extension entry and selecting “Pin to Toolbar”. The reverse action can be performed by right clicking the extension icon on the toolbar and clicking on “Pin to Toolbar” again (as you might observe the “Pin to Toolbar” option has a tick mark which signifies the extension icon is currently pinned to the toolbar i.e. the setting is active/enabled).

Once an extension icon is on the toolbar, accessing the “Customize Firefox” via the “Customize Toolbar…” option will allow you to freely move the extension icons and place them in whatever order you wish on the toolbar. Please note again that extension icons can not be placed in the overflow panel anymore.

It's the puzzle menu where many of my extensions are located. I can't move my most used extensions from here to my toolbar so that they are always visible, without requiring the extra step of clicking on the puzzle menu and searching through my extensions to then click on/activate them. (So say I want to click on TinyURL to create a shortened url, I can't move this out of the puzzle menu any more to always be in view on my toolbar. You probably need to have quite a few extensions installed to observe this behaviour, or there wont be enough extensions to populate the puzzle menu. (If that is what it is now called.)

We added support for reordering extensions in the new extensions panel in Bug 1805924.

So are you saying this feature has now been readded? In which build can I find it? It.makes no sense for my most used extensions to not be immediately available to me.

So are you saying this feature has now been readded? In which build can I find it? It.makes no sense for my most used extensions to not be immediately available to me.

The feature (moving extension widgets to the overflow menu) wasn't re-added, what changed is you can reorder extensions in the extensions panel. The bug linked indicates it was added in Firefox 114, which is in beta currently. The release build will ship on June 6, but the latest beta will already have the changes.

Sorry for the brevity, what Shane said is correct (and what I should have written in the first place). We also have a support page about the extensions panel and its features: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/extensions-button

OK thanks. I guess I can wait a month to get this functionality back
