Steps to reproduce:

Seldom I used to connect to my gmail account thru TB to download groups of email and free the cloud space, everything used to go fine and the authorization was given simply by means of my pw
Now I was going to migrate onto the client all the send recive store mmail system

I knew about the mandatory modification substituing the pw authorization with the OAUTH 2. I set it, allowed all the cookies and there qere no pw stored
TB opens the connection windows for GMAIL, I digit my username, the pw and a further google menu asks me to consent the app to have access
In the meanwhile I receive a mail where GMAIL confirms that I have allowed access to TB client, everything is ok.
By the way I DON'T HAVE the two passes authorization, e.g. I dont' use any sms on the mobile but, it seems to me that the access to GOOGLE is allowed regularly

Actual results:

I try to download messages from one of my accounts.
The TB connection gives an error and the connection is interrupetd at all
I tested it in two ways:

• on windows 11 I I receive immediately the error, in Italian the message is the following "Autenticazione non riuscita durante la connessione al server imap.gmail."
  Something like Authentication failed at server ..... , but this seems strange as the one pass access has been granted, in fact GOOGLE said to me to give consents
  More over if I go onto GOOGLE SECURITY (or something else, in italiano is SICUREZZA) I find written MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD EMAIL has access to the account thus it seems correctly authorized

I used olso the client running on WIN XP SP3, I don't achieve immediately an error nor the same message but left low on TB window I have a repeating message "data sending in progress" or something like that in italiano is "invio di dati in corso...." and after a lot (minutes and minutes) TB gives error

Thus I have the same error using two different o.s. and also two differente versions of TB (102.11.0 64 bit on windows 11 and 52.9.1 32 bit (the last allowable I think on XP) and that suggest the problems is inside GMAIL
So TB cannot access in any way GMAIL, of course I can access regularly the gmail account using a browser and operate on it regularly

Expected results:

It should connect and download messages
Thus I wander if: is it true from my description that GOOGLE accepted my authentication through ONE STEP ONLY and not using the two pass authentication ?
Any idea ?

This is the first time I write onto an english forum, I tried onto the italian TB support and onto the italian GMAIL support but I had no answer apart that, as far as I know, there isn't a official support from google

You posted error log details that indicate that the local host data posted from the Google authentication process is not successful. It also tells us in the last line that you cancelled the request for your primary password. This means Thunderbird has no access to stored passwords, or to store new ones. OAuth certainly requires the token used as passwords to be stored in the password manager and they can not be.

To fix the issue, enter or clear the primary password before trying to authenticate anything.
