Details
Steps to reproduce:
- Login to discord.com site
- In Firefox use option zoom - text only - 115% (or try other values)
- Scroll down the left pane with the channels
- Move a cursor over the last channel item, other channels above and everywhere over the page
Actual results:
- Last channel is invisible
- Some elements, or whole channels pane on the left is blinking
- Firefox CPU usage is increased from 1% to 30%
- Power usage is changed from Very low or Low to Very high
Expected results:
All elements should be visible, they should not blink and CPU and Power usage should be normal, not high.
Firefox 114.0.2 (64-bit), Windows 10 22H2 64-bit.
I had this bug also months ago, in older Firefox versions, but today, just 1 day after reporting it here, I can't reproduce it, in the same Firefox version, tested with various zoom values.
I changed few settings, but it was mostly privacy settings, I had lot of unread channels before, I can't remember other differences.
I will be watching this issue...

Hello, thank you for the bug report!
Unfortunately I could not reproduce your issue. Would you be so kind as to answer a few questions so we can investigate this further?
- Does this issue happen with a new profile? Here is a link on how to create one: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles
- Does this issue happen with latest nightly? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/
- Does this issue happen when Firefox is in Troubleshoot Mode? Here’s a link on how to enable it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-troubleshoot-mode
- Could you please attach your about:support info?
Moving the Product to 'Core' and Component to 'Layout'. Please change if there's a better fit, thank you.

Hello, thank you for the bug report!
Unfortunately I could not reproduce your issue.
Hello, thanks for the reply, I've been testing it last 3 days, results:
I couldn't reproduce it first 2 days, then I could reproduce it with zoom value 200% only.
Today I could reproduce it with 115%, but just for a while, after clicking "X+ new messages since..." blue stripe it works good again and I can't reproduce it even with the value 200% now.
Before I reported it here, I could reproduce it always with zoom value 115%, that's why I reported it, but I can't reproduce it always anymore.
I think that elements and text must have pixel perfect conditions to reproduce, so it will be very hard to reproduce.
If you're using Discord, to reproduce you could try:
- use "zoom - text only" - and value 105% or more
- change Firefox window size, make it smaller
- add/remove discord servers
- just use Discord in Firefox, Windows
Even if I'd give you all info I can, it will be probably impossible to reproduce it for you, since you can't have pixel perfect conditions for all elements, text, have the same servers, same content, text, etc.
BTW That blinking is like "jumping" too, quickly moving the pane content up and down, if a cursor is at the specific place, or if moving a cursor within the specific pane up and down.
Now I remember another similar issue, when typing in the quick reply pane on the phpBB forum, the pane was moving up/down 1 pixel, after every typed letter, but I can't reproduce it now, it could be fixed in Firefox or phpBB, or admin changed some settings, I could always reproduce it for months and now I realized, that it's very similar to this issue.
I tried to reproduce the issue with the steps you provided but I could not.
If possible, could you please attach a screen recording of the issue?
Also, could you please check your browser console to see if any errors are recorded when reproducing?
Thank you.

Please, read my previous reply, currently I can't reproduce it with any zoom value, when I reported it, I could always reproduce it.

I can reproduce this at very high zoom levels and only on certain discord servers. For me the custom channel scrollbar jumps up and down while scrolling, probably due to some discrepancy in calculating the height of the channels content.
As for the power usage, it might be that there is now a per frame function being called to scroll the content to the correct position, but because of the calculation error, it can never be done, so the function keeps running every frame.
This issue seems to be isolated to discord though so filing a bug with them might also be worth it.

Tiaan, since you could repro, could you take a profile? That could shed some light into what's going on.
This is probably a discord bug (they not expecting a font size too big or what not), but we can dig more with a profile.

This one got away from me. I've tried to reproduce again, but without success. A lot might have changed since this was filed. Can this be reproduced at all? @dreamer8

Hello, sorry for late reply, I'm not using Discord now, but now I tried it again, it was hard to reproduce it before, so it's not 100%, but after testing now, I can't reproduce the original bug anymore.
However, I have similar blinking issue on Google, I'll report it in a new topic.
Firefox 134.0.2 (64-bit), Windows 10 22H2 64-bit.

Thanks! Let's close this one as worksforme then. Please +CC me on the new bug that you mentioned hitting on Google, when you file it -- and if possible, it would be great if you could include a screencast to help us visualize the problem. The other useful thing to include would be a performance profile ( https://profiler.firefox.com/ & https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/performance/reporting_a_performance_problem.html ) of the bug reproducing, which can help us see what Firefox is doing at the moment the bug happens.
