My inbox is 48MB. It can not receive email any more. Have tried to compact it.
It did something, but did not reduce the size, nor allowed me to receive mail.
What is worst that I can only access some of may stored emails. After a
particular email (which obviously was corrupted - was received in October, and
received much more mail since) the headings are shown but I can not view the
details. These are important documents and would appreciate your help retrieving
them.

When you say that you cannot receive mail anymore, does that mean that mozilla
fails to receive mail from the server? Is the server still accepting mail? 

What kind of server are you using? IMAP or POP?
