2002120604 This is the page for the "Segway Human Transporter" on amazon.com. There is a link to mms://wm.amazon.usa.speedera.net/wm.amazon.usa/vid/General_use_high.wmv on this page to "See it in action" under the photo. When I click on the link. Nothing happens. Option-Click same. When I copy the link into a new window I get "mss is not a registered protocol".

So mms: is what exactly? A new microsoft protocol for launching .wmv files? I've honestly never seen that until now

I think it's amazon that must change it's links. http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/samples/internet/default.asp?url=/downloads/samples/internet/imedia/netshow/simpleasx/default.asp http://www.playstream.com/support/linking/easylink.asp

I'm gonna agree with Stephane as IE on my systems doesn't handle the mms: (Microsofy Media Stream?) link either. I did try using the More Internet prefs pane to add mms as a known protocol to be handled by the Windows Media Player app but that didn't work either. Going to make this into an evangelism bug.

Forgot to add that the lack of handling mms: links happens in Mozilla so it is definitely not a Chimera bug.

This is not really a Mozilla issue. This is a known Microsoft bug. Microsoft has documented that the MMS protocol will have issues on the Mac platform, even in IE/Mac. Reference http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/macintosh/readme7.asp#mms Workaround is per MS: "To play content that uses the MMS protocol, start the Player, and on the File menu, click Open URL, and then type the URL." *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 177161 ***
