Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Upon first launch of Mozilla 1.2.1, the Mozilla folder containing my Default Profile is installed like this: > HD > Design > Documents > Mozilla. I'm never asked where I want it. If I delete it and relaunch Mozilla, I get the Confirm Migration dialog; continuing with that and creating a new Default User profile, then selecting the path to install it works, but I have to reset all the Preferences again. But if you go back and check the previous location for the Mozilla folder where the Default Profile was initially installed, you'll see it's back again. Deleting it and then relaunching Mozilla takes you back to the Confirm Migration dialog again; a never-ending cycle. It seems that Mozilla arbitrarily picks someplace to install this folder and it's data, and even if you tell it to put it somewhere else with the Migration Manager, it keeps defaulting to the initial location, so you may have two different copies of the Default Profile, one of which seems to go unused. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install or update Mozilla to current version (I used the install stub, not the full download.) 2. Launch Mozilla for the first time; choose Edit > Preferences from the menu bar and select flip-down triangle for Advanced, then select Cache. Without a doubt, it's not a path you selected. Select a new path of: HD > System Folder > Preferences > Mozilla (you'll probably have to create a new folder named Mozilla in Preferences) 3. Go to the location that Mozilla had originally selected for the destination of the Mozilla folder to hold your Profile and/or Cache. Trash the folder, then Quit Mozilla. 4. Relaunch Mozilla; you should get the Confirm Migration dialog again, forcing you to do what you just completed a few moments ago. When you're done, check the previous location where your Mozilla folder for the Profile/Cache was; the folder should have reappeared again. Actual Results: I'm stuck in a never-ending cycle of delete and re-migrate. Expected Results: Mozilla should ask upon installation or first launch where the user wants the Profiles and Cache folder to be located, and not install them anywhere else unless you specifically change the location through the Preferences panel. Barring that, if you change the location of that folder using the Preferences panel, Mozilla should not go back and reinstall the folder and the Profile/Cache information where they were previously located,

This appears to be an Installer issue.

This might be profile migration, but ownership of general profile issues is more of a sure thing so I'll stick it there to make sure this is seen. Not critical, I don't see any dataloss other than the files you yourself are deleting manually.

True, if no profile exists, mozilla will create the default profile in
:Documents:Mozilla:Profiles:default. If you need your profile to be elsewhere,
you can create a new one and then delete "default" from the profile mgr dialog.
Trashing the profile's directory in the Finder instead of using the profile mgr
will not work - that's why there is a way to delete the profile using the
profile mgr.
The folder :Documents:Mozilla: is not a single profile. It contains the list of
profiles and other data as well. You can put your profile (which, by default, is
a subdirectory of that) elsewhere but :Documents:Mozilla: can't be deleted.
