User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/116.0
Steps to reproduce:
Open Thunderbird on GNOME.
Actual results:
The symbolic icon used by Thunderbird has a white background instead of a transparent one and as a result, when recolored, the symbolic icon becomes a white square instead of the Thunderbird logo.
Expected results:
The symbolic icon displays as the Thunderbird logo.

Was this fixed in bug 1843172, or something else in 128?

It doesn't look like a symbolic is even included anymore, so yes, it is fixed.
