When I goto edit a new email, there is no cursor indicating focus in the text area *until* I start typing. There's no way for me to know the text area has focus.

over to the compose guru Jean-Francois. This is most likely a problem with the editor widget that is embedded in the compose window if I had to guess. So you may end up bumping it over to one of them.

Laurel--is this still a problem? I see a caret blinking in the "to" field of mail compose with my build from today.
(Laurel is out today so I'm trying this) There is still a problem in this morning's builds: Win32: new msg - html - caret is in the To: field - correct new msg - plain text - caret is in the To: field - correct reply - html - caret is in the msg body - correct reply - plain txt - caret is NOT in the msg body until you start typing - incorrect Linux: new msg - html - caret is in the To: field - correct new msg - plain text - caret is in the To: field - correct reply - html - caret is NOT in the msg body until you start typing - incorrect reply - plain txt - caret is NOT in the msg body until you start typing - incorrect I haven't tried Mac yet. Kathy - you may wish to try the combinations above to see the problem.

Reply for all platforms, plain text and html all get a blinking caret in the body... OK. (if your machine is slow you have to give it time to appear). New messages, plain text and html show caret in body after tabbing or Enter from subject line. So, the body portion is okay. However there is still a problem with initial cursor/caret placement for new message compose with NT 4.0. I will mark this bug (since it was body oriented) verified. I will research for an existing bug for the New Message To: placement or open one for Win32. All this verified using: 2000-04-24-17 m16 commercial build linus rh6.0 2000-04-24-17 m16 commercial build mac OS 9.0 2000-04-21-09 m16 commercial build NT 4.0
