Details

(Whiteboard: [closeme 2024-07-25])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/115.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/115.0.1901.200

Steps to reproduce:

I opened Settings and, in Files & Attachments, tried to change the default download folder. (This was reported in bug 300856, 18 years ago in Linux.)

Actual results:

I browsed to another folder and selected "select folder". The default folder did not change.

Expected results:

I should have been able to change the directory.

Performed a test in Windows 10 OS
using beta 117.0b2

  • Settings > General
  • under 'Files & Attachments'
  • 'Save files to: click on 'Browse' and choose a different folder. ...../hold/'attachments'
  • click on 'Select Folder'
  • The selected folder does appear in the 'Save files to' text directory area. ..../hold/'attachments'
  • Located an email with attachment
  • For attachment click on 'Save'
  • Window opened on ..../hold/'attachments' folder
  • it does not auto save attachment in the folder - I need to click on 'Save'

Expected
Selected 'Browse' folder displayed in 'Save files to' text directory area
For selected attachment - click on SAve - Attachment file to get auto saved to the ..../hold/attachments folder
Did not expect the window to open asking me to 'Save'.

Actual results
Selected 'Browse' folder is displayed in 'Save files to' text directory area
For selected attachment - click on SAve - window opens on hold/attachments folder, but attachment file is not auto saved.

This is not working as expected because file was not auto saved, but I was able to choose a destination folder and it did display in the 'Save files to' area.

Result
In Windows OS, not identical issue as I can change destination folder but still a problem because it does not auto perform the save action in selected folder.

Change settings to 'Always ask me where to save files'

  • For attachment click on 'Save'
  • Window opens on ..../hold/attachments folder
  • I can then choose any folder I want and then click on Save.

Expected
Window to open, so I can choose whatever folder is desired and then save.
Actual results
Window opened allowing me to choose folder, so I can save in folder of choice.

This 'Always ask me where to save files' option is working as expected.

Component: Folder and Message Lists → Preferences

Still reproduces?

I cannot check it with 128 because 128 failed for me and I had to go back 115.12.2. I will check it again when I can use 128.

In 115.12.2, I can set the desired downloads folder, but when I save an attachment, the file is not stored in the specified folder. Instead, it goes to the Downloads folder in my user account: C:\Users\Sam\Downloads.

I was finally able to check it with 128ESR. The problem is fixed. Many thanks.
