Steps to reproduce:
I've set up subfolders below the inbox and appropriate server-side filters to sort incoming mail into either the inbox or other folders, depending on their importance. Now I only want to be immediately notified for new messages that appear in the inbox folder, but not its subfolders or potentially any other folder.
This is currently not possible with Thunderbird. It can annoy me for all the important and also the unimportant stuff, or not at all. There is no way to restrict notifications for the relevant cases. (Like I really don't need immediate attention on regular newsletters.)
The old extension "Mailbox Alert" that did this is now gone. Looks like I need to disable notifications completely and write a separate IMAP client that only monitors my mailbox and notifies independently for certain folders.
Thunderbird should be extended to just hide and silence notifications per folder. There is already an option to not synchronise folders, but that makes me blind even when I want to look. A separate option to control only the notifications is needed here.
Or can this be achieved in a future-proof way with a new Thunderbird add-on?
The filters run server-side; a client-side filtering is not an option because it only works while Thunderbird and the computer is running.
Even better would be full configuration for notifications (e.g. enable/disable and different sounds and alert customization) per folder.
A big +1. I also need to enable/disable and customize sound alerts per folder.
